The 1 Mile Henley Swim is a classic open water challenge set in the River Thames at Temple Island Meadows during the Henley Swim Festival. Swimmers can choose between two start options: the Mass Start, for those who enjoy a competitive, race-style experience, or the Rolling Start, which offers a more relaxed and staggered entry into the water. This scenic swim provides a rewarding challenge for both new and experienced open water swimmers looking to enjoy the historic Henley course.

The water quality of the Thames at Henley is regularly monitored, and the river is known for its clean, flowing conditions. While the temperature can vary depending on recent weather, it typically ranges between 16-20°C in summer. Swimmers should be prepared for the natural feel of open water, including cooler temperatures compared to a pool.
Participants are not required to wear wetsuits, though they are recommended for younger or less experienced swimmers to provide warmth and buoyancy. A brightly colored swim cap is typically required for safety and visibility. The event is fully lifeguarded, ensuring all swimmers feel secure as they take on this short but exciting swim in the historic setting of Henley-on-Thames.
