Like Taylor Swift, I’ve gone through eras with my swimming costumes. From plain black or navy blue with a simple back, to brightly patterned suits with criss-cross backs. Not all of these have been a success, but after 22+ years of experimenting with different styles & brands, I’ve gained a pretty encyclopaedic knowledge of women’s swimwear.

1. Funkita - Colourful, Durable & Built for Training Funkita has been around for donkey’s years & is known for its vibrant designs & long-lasting performance. Made with 100% chlorine-resistant C-Infinity fabric, these suits are a favourite among swimmers who hit the pool multiple times a week. They offer a variety of back styles to suit different body types & preferences, plus a range of one-piece or two-piece designs (yes, you read that right - they actually stay in place while you swim!).

2. Speedo - Trusted Performance with a Classic Fit Speedo knows what they’re doing. Their swim training suits are designed for swimmers who plan to go the distance. The Endurance+ fabric is 100% chlorine-resistant, ensuring durability & a comfortable fit during intense training sessions. While Speedo has recently added some trendier fits to their range, I’d recommend sticking to the classic styles for reliable performance.

3. Dolfin Uglies - Fun Prints with Serious Training Credentials Dolfin Uglies are famous for their bold patterns & solid performance, similar to Funkita. Made from a durable polyester blend, these suits are designed to resist chlorine & retain their colour, making them ideal for frequent swimming.

4. Budgy Smuggler - Bold, Comfortable Costumes That Last I was surprised when I realised Aussie brand Budgy Smuggler offers women’s training swimsuits - I’d always associated them with men’s... well... budgie smugglers. But their swimwear is designed for comfort, durability & a fantastic fit. Plus, they offer a range of fun patterns. Budgy Smuggler costumes are quickly gaining popularity among swimmers who are in it for the long haul.

5. Finisterre - Sustainable Warmth for Cold-Water Swimmers Finisterre’s Yulex swimsuits are perfect for outdoor swimmers who need extra warmth & sustainability. Made from 1-2mm thick natural rubber, these suits provide insulation for colder waters while maintaining flexibility. & they look gorgeous to boot.
